My new bit of fun

Moving into a new house that better fits your family can be lots of fun... and lots of work... and making changes and purchases all costs lots of money. Since moving last January I've really wanted a round table in our kitchen. I wanted something refinished, a good piece that will last us, and I was REALLY ready to move on from the table full of marker and stains from the years with real little ones.

I found a table at a garage sale for cheap, bargained for cheaper, and got right to work. I forgot to take a before of the table and chairs put together, but you can get the main idea. The whole thing was stained wood and thanks to Annie Sloan paint (and encouragement and advice from a high school pal!) I was able to just start painting- no priming, no sanding and only one good coat.

The top of the table had a few rough patches and since I was leaving the top stained, sanding and re-staining was a pretty simple process.

Outdoor fabric (on sale in October) added a nice bit of color

And the finished product at use

We'd been looking for new couches for a couple months and were just really not wanting to take the leap and spend the money (that I wanted to use for wood floors). But when your leather couches start splitting and tearing, it's time to get something you can sit on without having to patch with electrical tape... and the wood floors had to wait. We got a steal of a deal during our trip in Austin and though we had to drive to pick it up, it was TOTALLY worth the savings we got shopping local in Austin. :-)

The new couches

With the new couches, it was time to look at a coffee table that better fit without you having to inch your way in between the big rectangle table we used to have.

I got this pretty piece (very scratched up on top and a couple dents) for a whole $20.

Again, thankful for Annie Sloan paint and (though I had to sand the top to get the scratches smoothed out) the convenience of being able to get quick results.

Our new living room

After these first few projects I've got the bug... though there are several pieces I'd like to get to work on right away, my next big decorating project is going to be a big boy room. Joshua is about ready to be done with the crib and his room needs to be changed from nursery to big boy room- possibly room for two if we can work out putting the littles together. :-) Stay tuned on that though.
